Why travellers choose Morocco

Por qué los turistas van a Marruecos

Travelling to Morocco means discovering one of North Africa’s true gems: a land of great history and culture, endless variety and constant surprises, where past and present live side by side. A country that feels exotic and, at the same time, surprisingly familiar.

For its culture

Moroccan culture blends Amazigh, Arab, Andalusian and European influences. The most widely spoken languages are Arabic, Berber and French; Spanish is also common in the north. In the big cities, such as Casablanca, Fes and Marrakech, Islamic palaces and art galleries sit side by side.

For things to see and do

Strolling through the medinas, tasting the local food and admiring the architecture is an experience in itself. Then there is shopping in the souks, surfing on the Atlantic, trekking in the Atlas and nights in the desert: something for every age.

For a cultural trip there are monuments, museums and palaces all over the country: the Sacred Heart Cathedral and the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, and the Roman ruins of Volubilis near Fes and Meknes.

Chefchaouen, the blue city

In the north-west of the country, in the Rif mountains, Chefchaouen is famous for its blue-painted houses: a place like nowhere else.
