Everything travellers ask us before a trip: visas, the best time to go, money, what to pack, the Sahara Desert and how our private tours work.
Before you travel
Do I need a visa for Morocco?
Citizens of the UK, the EU, the US, Canada, Australia and many other countries do not need a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days. You just need a valid passport. Always check the latest requirements for your nationality before you travel.
When is the best time to visit Morocco?
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are ideal for the whole country. Summer is very hot inland and in the desert. Winter days are pleasant, but nights in the desert and the Atlas are cold.
How many days do I need in Morocco?
With 3 or 4 days you can go from Marrakech or Fes to the desert. With 7 or 8 days you can combine the desert with the imperial cities. With 10 to 15 days you can add the north, Chefchaouen or the Atlantic coast.
What languages are spoken?
The official languages are Arabic and Amazigh (Berber). French is widely used and Spanish is common in the north. Our drivers speak Spanish, English and French.
What plugs and time zone does Morocco use?
Plugs are the European type (C and E, 220 V). Morocco normally uses GMT+1, but switches to GMT+0 during Ramadan.
Money and everyday life
What currency is used and where can I change money?
The currency is the Moroccan dirham (MAD). You can change money at the airport, banks and exchange offices, or use ATMs. Cards are accepted in many places in the cities, but cash is best in villages and in the desert.
Should I tip?
Yes, tipping is customary. People usually leave a small tip at restaurants and for guides, cameleers and drivers, depending on how happy they are.
How should I dress?
We recommend comfortable clothes that cover shoulders and knees, especially in medinas and villages. For the desert, bring something warm for the night, comfortable shoes, sunglasses and a scarf for sun and sand.
Is Morocco safe to visit?
Morocco is a popular and welcoming destination. As on any trip, keep an eye on your belongings in crowded places. Travelling with a driver and local guides makes everything easier.
Can I drink the tap water?
We recommend bottled water, which you can buy in any shop.
The Sahara Desert
Which desert is best: Merzouga, Zagora or Erg Chegaga?
Merzouga (Erg Chebbi) has the highest and most accessible dunes. Zagora is the shortest option from Marrakech, with smaller dunes. Erg Chegaga is the wildest: you reach it by track and there are fewer people.
How long does it take from Marrakech or Fes to Merzouga?
From Marrakech it is about 560 km, so the journey is usually split over two days with stops. From Fes it is about 470 km and can be done in one day across the Middle Atlas.
What is it like to sleep in the desert?
You ride a dromedary to camp at sunset. Then there is a Berber dinner, music by the fire and a sky full of stars. There are simple camps and others with a private bathroom in the tent.
Our trips
Are the trips private?
Yes. All our trips are private: you travel only with your group, with your own driver and vehicle.
Can I change the itinerary?
Of course. The programmes on the website are a guide. We adapt the days, stops and type of accommodation to your preferences.
How do I get a quote or book?
Write to us from the form on any tour or via WhatsApp. Tell us your dates, number of travellers and what you would like to see. We reply with an itinerary and a no-obligation price, and explain the booking conditions.
