Morocco’s deep south on little-used tracks, desert villages and a return through the kasbah valleys.
Day 1: arrival in Marrakech
Airport pick-up and transfer to your hotel, with a first taste of Jemaa el-Fna square if time allows. Dinner and night.
Day 2: Marrakech – Zagora
Via Ait Ourir and the Tizi n’Tichka (2,260 m) to the Draa Valley and its three million palm trees, past Berber villages and kasbahs. Arrival in Zagora, in the heart of an oasis. Dinner and night in a riad.
Day 3: Zagora – Tafraoute – Ramlia – Ouzina
Little-used tracks through a non-touristy area, with landscapes unlike anything you have seen. Dinner and night at a guesthouse in the middle of the desert.
Day 4: Ouzina – Merzouga
A walk through the village of Ramlia and its garden with tea alongside the nomads, then on to Merzouga and Erg Chebbi, to watch the light change the colour of the dunes. Night at a guesthouse near the dunes.
Day 5: Merzouga – Erg Chebbi
Merzouga’s two oases, the nomad lands, the Gnawa village of Khamlia, the Mifiss mines and the plateaus. After tea, by camel into the heart of the dunes: a night in a tent with a campfire and traditional musicians.
Day 6: Erg Chebbi – Todra Gorges
Rissani, with its souk under red arcades and its ksour, lunch in Tinejdad and then the Todra Gorges, among Berber shepherds and nomads, to the hotel deep in the canyon. Dinner and night in a riad.
Day 7: Todra Gorges – Boutaghrar – Ouarzazate
The road of a thousand kasbahs with visits inside, the Valley of Roses and the calm of the Berber mountains, then the Skoura palm grove. Dinner and night in a riad.
Day 8: Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech
The kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, set for Gladiator, Asterix and Sahara, and over the High Atlas to Marrakech in the afternoon.
Day 9: guided Marrakech
The Menara gardens, the Saadian Tombs, the Bahia Palace, the Koutoubia and Jemaa el-Fna square. Dinner and night in a hotel.
Day 10: Marrakech – airport
Breakfast and transfer to the airport. End of the trip.
