4-day desert tour from Fes to Merzouga: a private, tailor-made trip with your own driver and a flexible itinerary.

This tour leaves Fes and reaches the Merzouga desert on a less-travelled route. It also passes through the Middle Atlas, Imilchil and the Todra Gorges. So it combines mountains, oases and dunes in just four days.

Day 1: Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Imilchil – Todra Gorges

After breakfast we leave Fes. First, we pass Ifrane and reach the Azrou cedar forests. Wild monkeys live there. Then we have lunch in a small Berber village. Next, we cross the Atlas through Midelt and Rich. After that, we go through the famous town of Imilchil. In the evening we reach the Todra Gorges. Dinner and night at the hotel.

Day 2: Todra Gorges – Tinejdad – Erfoud – Merzouga

After breakfast we set off for Merzouga. Along the way we see Berber villages. Then we cross Tinejdad, Jorf and Erfoud. This is where the great Tafilalt oasis begins. In the afternoon we reach Merzouga. Dinner and night at a hotel by the dunes.

Day 3: Merzouga – Erg Chebbi loop – night in the desert

In the morning we drive one of the old Paris-Dakar Rally tracks by 4×4. First, we visit nomad families and share tea with them. Then we see the oasis where the film “Sahara” was shot. We also visit Khamlia, the Gnawa village of sub-Saharan origin, famous for its music.

After lunch we swap the 4×4 for dromedaries. With them we ride into the dunes for sunset. Then we reach the camp, about two hours away. Dinner and night in the desert.

Day 4: Merzouga – Rissani – Ziz Valley – Azrou – Fes

The day starts with sunrise over the dunes. Then we ride back to the hotel for breakfast and a shower. Next, we pass through Rissani, the cradle of the Alaouite dynasty. After that, we follow the Ziz Valley towards Azrou and Ifrane. In the cedar forest we stop to see the monkeys. Finally, we reach Fes at sunset.

Why choose this tour
