This route takes you from Marrakech to Fes by way of the Merzouga desert. So it is ideal if you want to see the Sahara without returning to your starting point. In three days you cross the Atlas, the Dades, the Todra and the Erg Chebbi dunes.
Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley
We pick you up at your hotel at 8 am. First, we cross the Atlas over the Tichka pass and stop for the views. Then we visit the kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. You have time to walk around and climb to the top for the valley views. Next, we continue via Ouarzazate and the Valley of Roses. In the afternoon we reach the Dades Valley. Dinner and night at a hotel by the river.
Day 2: Dades – Todra Gorges – Erfoud – Merzouga
After breakfast we continue through Boumalne among ksour, oases and palm trees. Then we reach Tinghir and walk through the Todra Gorges. Next, we pass Erfoud, the fossil town. In the afternoon we reach Merzouga and have a welcome tea. There you leave any luggage you won’t need. Then we ride dromedaries into the dunes to the camp. Dinner and night in a tent under the stars.
Day 3: Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Midelt – Ifrane – Fes
We get up before dawn to watch the sunrise from the big dune. Then we ride back for a shower and breakfast. Next, we head north through the Tafilalt palm grove. In the Ziz Valley we stop at a viewpoint over the village of Aoufous. We have lunch in Midelt. In the afternoon we pass Ifrane, the “Switzerland of Morocco”, and reach Fes. The trip ends at your accommodation.
