Land in Errachidia, sleep in the Sahara and reach Marrakech through the gorges and the Atlas.
Day 1: Errachidia – Ziz Valley – Erfoud – Merzouga
Pick-up at Moulay Ali Cherif airport or anywhere in Errachidia and a drive through the Ziz Valley, with a viewpoint stop. Via Erfoud, the fossil capital, we reach Merzouga: an experienced cameleer leads us in half an hour to the camp among the dunes. A night under the stars.
Day 2: Merzouga – Rissani – Todra Gorges – Dades Gorges
Breakfast at camp and a camel ride back to Merzouga. A stop in Rissani, birthplace of the royal family and an old caravan stop, then the Todra Gorges, with a walk beneath 300-metre cliffs. Arrival at the Dades Gorges in the afternoon, dinner and night in a hotel or riad.
Day 3: Dades Gorges – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech
A walk in the Dades Gorges, then Ouarzazate and the Atlas studios. Visit the kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO site and set for Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator and Game of Thrones. After lunch we cross the High Atlas via the Tizi n’Tichka pass (2,260 m) and reach Marrakech in the evening.
