5-day desert tour from Agadir to Merzouga: a private, tailor-made trip with your own driver and a flexible itinerary.
A loop from Agadir: saffron country, the kasbahs, the Sahara and the gorges, returning to the coast.
Day 1: Agadir – Taroudant – Taliouine – Ait Ben Haddou
Taroudant, one of Morocco’s oldest towns on the Souss plain, Taliouine, the saffron capital at 1,586 m, and Tazenakht, between the High and Anti-Atlas. Lunch on the way and arrival at Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO site and set for Gladiator, Asterix and Sahara. Dinner and night.
Day 2: Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Anti-Atlas – Draa Valley – Merzouga
Ouarzazate, the film city, the Tizi n’Tinififft pass (1,600 m) and the Draa Valley through palm groves, villages and kasbahs. Nkob, Tazzarine and Alnif, then a track to Rissani, the old economic capital with its ksour and great souk. Arrival at the hotel at the foot of Erg Chebbi with welcome tea and a walk on the dunes. Berber dinner and night in the hotel.
Day 3: Erg Chebbi loop and a night in the desert
The village and palm grove of Merzouga and Khamlia, with its UNESCO-listed Gnawa music, and a Berber pizza lunch. In the afternoon a 90-minute dromedary ride through the dunes for sunset. Dinner, drums and a night in a tent in the heart of the desert.
Day 4: Merzouga – Erfoud – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley
Sunrise from the dunes and a camel ride back for breakfast. Erfoud, the Todra Gorges and a night in a riad in Boumalne Dades.
Day 5: Dades – Ouarzazate – Tazenakht – Taroudant – Agadir
Via Ouarzazate and Tazenakht to Taroudant, “little Marrakech”, for lunch, then with the Atlas behind us to Agadir. Arrival at your hotel in the evening.
