If you are planning a trip to Morocco, one of the first questions is whether you need a visa. The answer depends on your nationality and the purpose of your trip. Here are the main rules, explained simply.

Visa-free travel
Citizens of around 70 countries, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, the European Union, Switzerland, the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, do not need a visa for a tourist trip to Morocco. You can stay for up to 90 days from the date of your entry stamp. A few nationalities have shorter limits.
Passport
- Your passport should be valid for at least six months from your date of entry.
- Keep at least one blank page for stamps.
- Make sure your passport is stamped when you enter the country.
If your nationality needs a visa
If you are not from a visa-exempt country, you can apply for an e-visa on Morocco’s official portal (Access Maroc / AEVM) or at the Moroccan embassy or consulate in your country. You will usually need a valid passport, photos, proof of accommodation and a travel itinerary. Start the process well in advance.
Types of visa
- Tourist: for holidays or visiting family.
- Business: for meetings, conferences or commercial activities.
- Student: for people enrolled at a Moroccan institution.
- Work: usually sponsored by a Moroccan employer.
Staying longer than 90 days
To stay longer than 90 days you need a residence permit, issued by the police in the city where you live.
