6-day desert tour from Agadir to Erg Chegaga: a private, tailor-made trip with your own driver and a flexible itinerary.

From Agadir to Marrakech via Morocco’s wildest desert, the Draa Valley, the Saghro and the gorges.

Day 1: Agadir – Taroudant – Taliouine – Foum Zguid

Departure at 8 am by 4×4 to Taroudant, “little Marrakech” with its great walls, then the saffron lands of Taliouine over the Tizi n’Taghatine and Tizi n’Ikhsane passes. Lunch in Tazenakht, a town of carpets and kilims, and a night in Foum Zguid, on the edge of the Sahara.

Day 2: Foum Zguid – Erg Chegaga dunes

Lake Iriki, once full of fish and waterbirds and now almost dry, across reg and hamada. Lunch at Erg Chegaga and one or two hours by camel for sunset on the dunes. Night at a bivouac.

Day 3: Erg Chegaga – M’Hamid – Zagora

60 km of desert to M’Hamid via the Sacred Oasis, the old village across the Draa River and then the Draa Valley along the old caravan route to Mali, to Zagora, famous for its dates. Night in Zagora.

Day 4: Zagora – Dades Gorges

The oldest kasbah in the Draa Valley with its Mellah, then Alnif and the Saghro mountains, land of the Ait Atta, the last to resist French occupation. Lunch at the Todra Gorges and a night in the Dades Valley.

Day 5: Dades Gorges – Ouarzazate

A walk in the Dades Gorges, Boumalne and Boutaghrar, with mint tea at a nomad family’s tent. The Valley of Roses, the Skoura oasis and the kasbah of Amridil, once pictured on the old 50-dirham note. Night in a riad in Ouarzazate.

Day 6: Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Telouet – Marrakech

The kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, set for Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia, and the Telouet kasbah, former residence of Pasha Glaoui. Arrival in Marrakech in the afternoon over the Tizi n’Tichka.
