2-day desert tour from Marrakech to Zagora

2-day desert tour from Marrakech to Zagora: a private, tailor-made trip with your own driver and a flexible itinerary.

It is the shortest way to spend a night in the desert from Marrakech. You also cross the High Atlas and visit the kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. So it is perfect if you only have a few days.

Day 1: Marrakech – Tizi n’Tichka – Ait Ben Haddou – Zagora

We pick you up at your hotel or riad in Marrakech. First, we climb the High Atlas over the Tizi n’Tichka pass, at 2,260 metres. Along the way we stop to enjoy the views. Then we visit an argan cooperative, where they show you how the oil is made.

After that, we reach Ait Ben Haddou, a World Heritage Site. Films such as Gladiator and The Jewel of the Nile were shot here. We have lunch in the village and continue to Zagora. On arrival, we get on the dromedaries. With them we ride to the small Nkhila dunes. There we watch the sunset and sleep at the desert camp.

Day 2: Zagora – Draa Valley – Ouarzazate – Marrakech

We get up to watch the sunrise over the dunes. Then we have breakfast and ride back to Zagora. Next, we return to Marrakech on the same road. On the way we stop in the Draa Valley and its palm groves. We reach Marrakech in the afternoon. This is where the tour ends.

Zagora, gateway to the Sahara

Zagora is a small, quiet town in southern Morocco. For years it has been a classic starting point for desert trips. It also has a famous sign: “Timbuktu, 52 days”. It recalls how long caravans took to reach Mali.

Its dunes are smaller than those of Merzouga. However, a night in the desert is just as special. That is why this tour is popular with people short on time. If you prefer higher dunes, see our 3-day tours to Merzouga.

The tour is private, so we can change any stop to suit you.
