Day trip from Fes to Volubilis and Meknes
Day trip from Fes to Volubilis and Meknes: a private, tailor-made trip with your own driver and a flexible itinerary.
A day among Morocco’s most important Roman ruins, the holy town of Moulay Idriss and Meknes, one of the four imperial cities.
Itinerary
Pick-up at your hotel or riad and drive west to Volubilis (Walili), the ancient Roman city with the most important archaeological remains in the country. Take as long as you like to visit, usually about an hour. We then pass the holy town of Moulay Idriss.
On to Meknes, Morocco’s capital under Sultan Moulay Ismail in the 17th and 18th centuries: the souks, el-Hedim square and the Bab Mansour gate, one of the finest in Morocco and a UNESCO site, flanked by two square towers. Legend says the sultan asked the architect whether he could build another one like it and, when he said yes, had him executed. The visit continues through the medina’s narrow winding lanes before returning to Fes.
