In Morocco’s medinas, history is told through architecture. Fes, Marrakech and other cities hold treasures that speak of past eras.

The medina of Fes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a maze of tradition. Among its alleys stands Al Qaraouiyine University, founded in the 9th century, long before many European universities. Nearby are the Chouara tanneries, where craftsmen transform leather using an age-old trade.
Not far away, Volubilis, also a UNESCO site, preserves Roman ruins with mosaics and arches. Next to it, Moulay Idriss Zerhoun, one of Morocco’s holiest towns, charms with its white houses and steep lanes.
In Marrakech the Koutoubia minaret has dominated the skyline for centuries, while the Bahia Palace shows the splendour of the Moroccan aristocracy.
